SWANSEA SIGN NOTTINGHAM FOREST MIDFIELDER MARKO STAMENIC FOR £2M+
Swansea City have confirmed the arrival of Marko Stamenic, with the New Zealand midfielder joining from Nottingham Forest in a deal valued at just over £2m. The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract at the Swansea.com Stadium, with the club holding an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.
Stamenic never made a first-team appearance for Forest after his move from Red Star Belgrade in 2024, instead spending last season on loan at Olympiacos, where he helped the Greek giants claim both the league and cup titles.
Speaking about his move, Stamenic expressed his delight at joining the Swans:
“From my very first conversation with the club, I could feel how much they believed in their project. I knew straight away it was something I wanted to be part of. I’m absolutely buzzing to get going.”
The Kiwi international, who has earned 31 caps and scored three goals for his country, was in attendance as Swansea defeated Sheffield United 1-0 last weekend and is now pushing to be involved in Saturday’s match against Watford.
Head coach Alan Sheehan believes the midfielder’s arrival adds a new dimension to his squad:
“Marko gives us energy, physicality, and composure in the middle of the pitch. He’s ambitious, determined, and fits the values we’re building this team around.”
Swansea’s director of football Richard Montague added:
“His versatility and work ethic will strengthen our midfield options. More importantly, he shares our vision for how we want to play — aggressive, adaptable, and always on the front foot.”
Stamenic’s career began in New Zealand with Western Suburbs and Team Wellington before moving to Europe with FC Copenhagen, where he also had a loan spell at HB Køge. He went on to win silverware with both Copenhagen and Red Star before adding another double to his CV at Olympiacos.
His signing makes him Swansea’s ninth addition of the summer transfer window. The club is still targeting a striker, a left-sided defender, and a winger before the deadline on 1 September.`
