Dons secure Derby wing-back Wilson on permanent deal

MK DONS SIGN DERBY COUNTY DEFENDER KANE WILSON FOR UNDISCLOSED FEE

Wilson, who racked up 85 appearances for Derby County across two seasons after joining from Bristol City, revealed that the chance to reunite with manager Paul Warne played a decisive role in his decision to join the Dons.

“Paul [Warne] is honestly one of a kind—he makes me laugh and he’s someone I’ve always respected,” Wilson told the club’s media team. “When we spoke on the phone, his positivity about the club and where it’s heading really stood out. For me and my family, it just felt like the perfect move. I knew straight away I wanted to be a part of it.”

Known for his attacking instincts as much as his defensive work, Wilson is keen to bring energy and creativity to Wimbledon’s flanks.

“Getting forward is a big part of my game,” he added. “I love dribbling, running at defenders, and creating opportunities. Of course, contributing to clean sheets is important too, but if I can excite the fans and help the team at both ends of the pitch, then I’ll feel I’ve done my job.”

Wilson began his career at West Bromwich Albion before gaining valuable senior experience during loan spells with Exeter City, Tranmere Rovers and Walsall. His career took off when he joined Forest Green Rovers in 2020, where consistent performances earned him a move to Derby.

Now at Wimbledon, Wilson is hoping his blend of experience and attacking flair can make him a key figure in Warne’s setup as the Dons aim to push further up the League One table this season.
