BRENTFORD REJECT NEWCASTLE'S £40M BID FOR STRIKER YOANE WISSA
Brentford have turned down a £40 million offer from Newcastle United for forward Yoane Wissa, as the Bees remain determined to keep hold of one of their key attacking players this summer.
The 28-year-old striker, who stepped up impressively during Ivan Toney’s suspension last season, has become an integral part of Thomas Frank’s frontline. Wissa hit double figures in goals across all competitions in 2024/25, showcasing his ability to play both as a central striker and from the left.
Newcastle, keen to add attacking reinforcements ahead of their push for Champions League qualification, identified Wissa as a top target. However, Brentford are holding firm, insisting that the DR Congo international is not for sale unless an exceptional offer is tabled.
Sources close to the club suggest Brentford view Wissa as “indispensable”, particularly with Toney’s long-term future at the Gtech Community Stadium still uncertain amid transfer speculation.
Wissa himself is believed to be happy in West London, though the lure of European football with Newcastle could prove tempting should the Magpies return with an improved bid.
Brentford have already lost key players in recent transfer windows, and Frank has made it clear that maintaining squad stability is vital if the club are to push for another strong mid-table finish in the Premier League.
For Newcastle, the rejected offer signals their intent to strengthen their attack, with Eddie Howe eager to bring in competition and cover for Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson. The Magpies are expected to explore alternative striker targets if Brentford continue to resist negotiations.
