BOURNEMOUTH AGREE £20M DEAL FOR LIVERPOOL'S BEN DOAK WITH £5M ADD-ONS
Bournemouth are on the verge of adding one of Scotland’s brightest young prospects to their ranks, with Ben Doak set to complete a £20m move from Liverpool — potentially rising to £25m with add-ons. The deal is expected to be finalised within the next 24 hours once medical checks and paperwork are completed.
For the 19-year-old winger, the move represents more than just a transfer — it is a chance to step out of the shadows at Anfield and establish himself as a regular in the Premier League.
From Promise to Opportunity
Doak arrived at Liverpool from Celtic in 2022 amid plenty of hype, but opportunities in a star-studded frontline were always going to be limited. In two seasons he made just 10 first-team appearances, his path to minutes blocked by established internationals.
A loan spell at Middlesbrough last season showcased glimpses of his potential. Across 24 appearances, he contributed three goals and seven assists, his fearless dribbling and direct running marking him out as one of the Championship’s most dangerous wide players before a thigh injury cut his campaign short in January.
Scotland rewarded that progress with a first senior call-up last September, handing him valuable international experience. Now, Bournemouth believe they can provide the platform for Doak to thrive.
Why Bournemouth?
The Cherries have been one of the most active clubs in the market this summer, both selling and recruiting aggressively. Having seen Dango Ouattara depart for Brentford and several key defenders leave for Europe’s elite, manager Andoni Iraola has been reshaping his squad at pace.
Doak offers exactly the profile Iraola wants: speed, creativity and an ability to unsettle defenders. Bournemouth beat off interest from Premier League rivals and Porto to secure him, convinced that his ceiling is far higher than what Liverpool fans have so far seen.
Liverpool’s Summer of Change
For Liverpool, the deal is another step in what has become one of the most radical overhauls of the squad in recent years. Their outgoings now total close to £200m, offsetting an eye-watering £270m investment in new signings.
The Reds have waved goodbye to Luis Díaz, Darwin Núñez, Jarrell Quansah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, while academy products like Caoimhin Kelleher, Nat Phillips and Tyler Morton have also been moved on. In financial terms, sales of players who cost the club just £600,000 combined are now set to generate upwards of £85m, giving the club breathing room under the Premier League’s sustainability rules.
A Fresh Chapter Awaits
For Doak, this move feels like the right step at the right time. Bournemouth, though still finding their rhythm under Iraola, can offer him opportunities that would not have been guaranteed on Merseyside.
The winger’s style — fearless on the ball, relentless in transition, and always looking to take on his man — should endear him quickly to the Vitality Stadium faithful. If he can stay injury-free and replicate his Middlesbrough form at Premier League level, the Cherries may have landed themselves a gem.
