CHESTERFIELD RE-SIGN FORMER IPSWICH DEFENDER JANOI DONACIEN
Chesterfield have made a significant move to strengthen their promotion ambitions, securing the return of experienced defender Janoi Donacien on a contract until the end of the season.
The 30-year-old joins the National League leaders as a free agent following his recent departure from Championship side Ipswich Town. The signing marks a reunion with manager Paul Cook, under whom Donacien previously played during a successful loan spell at the club in the 2015/16 season.
The move is a clear statement of intent from the Spireites, who are aiming to secure a long-awaited return to the English Football League. Donacien’s arrival adds valuable experience, depth, and a winning mentality to a squad already enjoying a commanding lead at the top of the table.
Manager Paul Cook expressed his delight at bringing a familiar face back to the SMH Group Stadium. "We're absolutely thrilled to get Janoi on board," Cook said. Donacien, a St. Lucian international, arrives with considerable experience, having made over 100 appearances for Ipswich Town. He was a popular figure at Portman Road and a key member of the squad that achieved promotion from League One last season. Primarily a right-back, he is also comfortable operating in central defence, offering Cook crucial tactical flexibility for the demanding run-in.
