Sheffield United sign Danny Ings on a one-year deal

DANNY INGS JOINS SHEFFIELD UNITED AFTER WEST HAM RELEASE

The 33-year-old forward has penned a one-year deal at Bramall Lane, with the option of an additional season, following a brief spell training with the squad. His arrival provides much-needed attacking depth for the Blades, who remain rooted to the bottom of the Championship table after losing their opening three fixtures and scoring just once in that time.

Ings endured a difficult spell at West Ham, netting just once in 15 league appearances last season and managing only five goals in total across 69 games since joining from Aston Villa in January 2023. Determined to reignite his career, the former England international said:

"I’ve kept myself fit while waiting for the right opportunity, and I believe this is a great one for me. It feels like the right place to move forward again."

Ings’ career has seen plenty of highs and lows. Starting out at Bournemouth, he rose to prominence at Burnley, firing 21 goals in the Championship to secure promotion in 2014 before hitting double figures in the Premier League the following year. His form earned him an £8 million move to Liverpool, where he also won his first England cap. However, recurring knee injuries blighted his three years at Anfield and limited him to just four goals in 25 appearances.

A loan to Southampton gave him the chance to rediscover his sharpness, eventually leading to a permanent transfer in 2019. He flourished on the South Coast, scoring 46 goals in 100 matches and earning a long-awaited recall to the national team. A subsequent move to Aston Villa brought 14 goals in 52 appearances before his switch to West Ham.

Now with Sheffield United, Ings is looking to draw on his wealth of experience to help Paul Heckingbottom’s side climb away from early-season struggles and provide the goals they have so far been missing.
