DANGO OUATTARA JOINS BRENTFORD IN £42.5M RECORD-BREAKING TRANSFER
Brentford have announced the signing of Burkina Faso international Dango Ouattara, who joins the club on a five-year contract with the option of an additional year.
The 23-year-old forward arrives from Bournemouth after a spell in which he registered nine goals in 37 appearances across all competitions last season. Seen as the natural successor to Bryan Mbeumo, who left for Manchester United in July, Ouattara is expected to add pace, power, and direct attacking threat to the Bees’ frontline.
Manager Keith Andrews expressed his excitement at securing the deal:
“We’re really pleased to bring Dango in. Once we realized there was a chance to sign him, we made it a priority. Despite his age, he already has Premier League experience, and we believe he just needs consistent game time to really show his potential.”
Ouattara joined Bournemouth in January 2023 from Lorient, but struggled to cement a permanent starting role. Brentford believe their attacking system will bring the best out of him, with Andrews confident he can become a key figure in their forward line.
“He brings qualities we’ve been missing, and I’m certain the supporters will love watching him. He’s the kind of player who gets fans off their seats,” Andrews added.
While Ouattara strengthens Brentford’s options in attack, his arrival could impact the future of Yoane Wissa, who has been linked with a move away. Wissa will not feature in Brentford’s Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest, with reports suggesting his situation remains unresolved after Newcastle United saw a £25m plus £5m add-ons bid rejected.
Ouattara becomes one of Brentford’s most high-profile additions of the summer as the club look to stay competitive in the Premier League following a summer of significant squad changes.
