Colchester United secure loan signing of Fulham's Araujo

COLCHESTER UNITED SIGN FULHAM DEFENDER HARVEY ARAUJO ON LOAN

Although he is still waiting for his first senior appearance in Fulham colours, Araujo has already tested himself in senior football. He spent last season on loan at Chesterfield, featuring in 20 League Two games and showing glimpses of maturity beyond his age. His earlier experience with the London club’s Under-21s also saw him gain valuable minutes in the EFL Trophy.

Head coach Danny Cowley believes the young defender’s attributes will add something different to his squad.

“He’s a technically gifted player, very comfortable on the ball, and he gives us that natural left-footed balance we’re always looking for. He reads the game really well and brings intelligence to his defending. Importantly, his arrival gives us more depth and competition in a key area of the pitch.”

Colchester’s season has begun in stuttering fashion — five points from five games have been followed by consecutive losses against Cambridge United and Barrow. The club sees Araujo’s signing as a step towards stabilising their back line and raising performance levels.

For the player, the move is an opportunity to step out of Fulham’s youth setup and establish himself in the men’s game.

“I back myself as a leader both on and off the ball,” Araujo explained. “I like to dictate the tempo, show my physical presence, and be aggressive when the moment demands it. From day one, Danny and Nicky have been clear about what they want from me, and I’m ready to take that challenge on and show what I can do.”

The U’s next test comes against Barnet this weekend, where supporters will be eager to see if their latest addition makes an immediate impact.
