Manchester United have made an official €40 million offer for Sporting CP’s midfield anchor Morten Hjulmand, as the Red Devils continue their aggressive summer rebuild under new boss Rúben Amorim. The 25-year-old Denmark international is emerging as a top target to stabilize United’s midfield, but the club must fend off growing interest from Juventus, who are equally determined to land the player.

After a turbulent 2024/25 season, United are undergoing major restructuring, and Amorim is pushing for a reunion with one of his former Sporting linchpins. Hjulmand played a crucial role in Amorim’s final campaign in Lisbon, leading Sporting to a title challenge with his commanding presence in midfield and exceptional defensive intelligence.

Amorim is understood to view Hjulmand as a perfect long-term replacement for Casemiro, whose departure is expected following heavy interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and MLS. With Kobbie Mainoo seen more as a progressive force and Mason Mount still working toward consistency, Hjulmand would be tasked with anchoring the midfield and providing balance.

However, United are not alone. Juventus, under new head coach Thiago Motta, are revamping their midfield and see Hjulmand as a priority signing. With Adrien Rabiot leaving on a free and Weston McKennie linked with a Premier League return, Juve are eager to inject new energy and discipline into the centre of the pitch.

Sporting, meanwhile, are holding firm on their €60 million release clause, but sources suggest they may accept a lower fixed fee if performance-based bonuses and a future resale clause are included. Hjulmand himself is open to a move, but has yet to choose between a return to working with Amorim at Old Trafford or a Champions League project with Juventus.

United are hoping their strong personal connection through Amorim — as well as the promise of being a central figure in their midfield rebuild — will sway Hjulmand’s decision. With pre-season rapidly approaching, a decision is expected in the coming days.
