Spurs begin talks with Bayern Munich over João Palhinha transfer

SPURS IN PALHINHA TALKS! TOTTENHAM EXPLORE SHOCK LOAN MOVE FOR BAYERN MUNICH MIDFIELDER

Tottenham Hotspur are in formal negotiations with Bayern Munich to sign João Palhinha, as manager Thomas Frank appears to be closing in on his fourth significant signing of the summer. Discussions are ongoing over a loan deal, potentially including an option to buy, although Bayern remain open to a permanent transfer for Palhinha.

Palhinha—aged 30 and previously signed from Fulham for around £46–47 million—struggled for game time at Bayern during the 2024–25 season, managing fewer than 20 Bundesliga appearances. With strong competition in midfield and persistent injury issues, he has reportedly expressed a desire to return to the Premier League, where he previously had success. Spurs are keen to add his experience and defensive solidity to Thomas Frank’s squad, especially after promotion back into the Champions League.

Negotiations with Bayern are believed to involve a potential fee in the €25–30 million range if a permanent transfer is pursued. Tottenham initially preferred a loan structure, but flexibility remains on the table depending on agreement terms. Bayern seem willing to meet Spurs halfway after investing heavily in the player just one year ago.

This move is part of Frank’s broader squad overhaul. Tottenham have already secured high-profile arrivals including Mohammed Kudus and the permanent signing of Mathys Tel. Palhinha is seen as essential to reinforce midfield physicality ahead of the new campaign. Spurs may still need to offload players such as Yves Bissouma or Rodrigo Bentancur to balance the books and create space.

If personal terms and medical checks go smoothly, a deal could be finalized imminently—making Palhinha the fourth member of Frank’s revamped squad and potentially a key enforcer in Spurs’ engine room for the upcoming season.
