OFFICIAL: Real Madrid complete Carreras signing with long-term deal

REAL MADRID COMPLETE €50M CARRERAS SIGNING! BENFICA DEFENDER JOINS AFTER CLUB WORLD CUP SUCCESS

Real Madrid have officially secured the signing of Álvaro Carreras from Benfica in a €50 million transfer, finalising a deal that had been in the works for weeks. The move was completed shortly after the conclusion of the Club World Cup, where the player’s participation had delayed final negotiations.

The 22-year-old Spanish left-back becomes Madrid’s first major signing of the summer window and is expected to provide immediate competition for Ferland Mendy, while also being viewed as a long-term successor in the position.

Carreras impressed during his time in Portugal, emerging as one of the most consistent full-backs in the Primeira Liga. Known for his defensive discipline, overlapping runs, and intelligent distribution, he caught the attention of Real Madrid scouts throughout the 2024/25 season — and was quickly prioritised once the transfer window opened.

Negotiations with Benfica were intense, with the Portuguese club initially holding out for a higher fee. However, Madrid’s persistence paid off, and both sides agreed to a package worth €50 million. The final paperwork was completed shortly after Carreras returned from Club World Cup duty.

The Spaniard is set to undergo medicals in Madrid this week before linking up with Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for pre-season training. His arrival adds further depth to a defensive unit that is being subtly reshaped with youth and athleticism in mind.

For Carreras, the move marks a major milestone in his career — a return to Spain and a step up to one of the world’s most elite clubs. He is expected to challenge for a starting spot immediately and could feature prominently in both domestic and European competitions.

Real Madrid, fresh off a title-winning season, are reinforcing key positions early in the window, with Carreras now officially part of the next chapter at the Bernabéu.
