Inter Milan have lost four Champions League matches in a row for the first time in their history, and the one that completed the set was a mess of a night at San Siro. Club Brugge won 4-3. Nicolo Tresoldi scored three of them.
Half an hour of nothing, then seven goals
For thirty minutes the game gave away no hint of what was coming. Then referee Rohit Saggi pointed to the spot for Club Brugge and Tresoldi battered the penalty into the top right corner. Lautaro Martinez levelled right on half-time, his first goal in this competition since November 2025, and the home crowd could reasonably have expected the evening to settle down from there.
It did the opposite. Inter goalkeeper Josep Martinez rushed out, missed the ball entirely and left Tresoldi with an empty net to walk it into. Eleven minutes after that the striker had his hat-trick, following up a Martinez save and driving the rebound into the bottom corner for 3-1.
Lautaro keeps dragging them back
With under ten minutes left Lautaro pounced on a loose ball in the box for his second, and for a moment the comeback looked plausible. Romeo Vermant ended that three minutes from time, restoring the two-goal cushion. Even then it was not finished: Ange-Yoan Bonny, on from the bench, cut in from the left in the 93rd minute and curled a lovely finish into the far corner. Four-three, and no time to do anything about it.
Two goals from your captain and a late one from a substitute would normally be enough to take something from a home game. Inter conceded four at San Siro instead, and the goalkeeping error in the middle of it will be replayed all week.
A striker nobody was talking about
Tresoldi now has four goals in this season's Champions League. A hat-trick away at Inter is the sort of night that changes how a player is scouted, and Club Brugge will know it. For Inter, the arithmetic is uncomfortable: four straight defeats in the competition, and a record that has stood since the 1960s now belongs to this team.
Match facts: Inter Milan 3-4 Club Brugge, Champions League league phase. Tresoldi scored on the half-hour from the penalty spot, again after a Josep Martinez error, and completed his hat-trick eleven minutes later. Lautaro Martinez scored on the brink of half-time and again inside the last ten minutes. Romeo Vermant made it 4-2 three minutes from time; Ange-Yoan Bonny pulled one back in the 93rd minute.
