Blackburn Rovers sign forward Andri Gudjohnsen on permanent deal

BLACKBURN ROVERS SIGN ICELAND STRIKER ANDRI GUDJOHNSEN FOR UNDISCLOSED FEE

Gudjohnsen arrives in Lancashire following a steady spell in Belgium with Gent, where he netted five times in 32 league appearances last season. Before that, the forward spent time in Sweden with IFK Norrköping and gained valuable experience on loan at Danish club Lyngby during the 2023-24 campaign.

His footballing journey has already seen him pass through some of Europe’s biggest academies, including both Barcelona and Real Madrid, where he featured 19 times for the Spanish giants’ B side, scoring four goals. That experience, combined with his international pedigree, makes him one of Iceland’s most promising forwards.

On the international stage, Gudjohnsen has established himself as a regular for Iceland, scoring nine goals in 34 caps. He has now joined up with the national squad ahead of crucial World Cup qualifiers against Azerbaijan and France.

For Blackburn, his arrival comes at a difficult moment. Rovers have endured a tough start to the new campaign, losing three of their opening four league fixtures, including a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Norwich City. The club’s hierarchy will be hoping Gudjohnsen can add much-needed firepower to John Eustace’s struggling attack and provide a focal point as they look to climb the table.

Carrying the famous Gudjohnsen name brings added weight of expectation, but Andri has long spoken of forging his own path. With his mix of technical ability, movement, and finishing, Blackburn fans will be hoping he can write his own chapter at Ewood Park—just as his father once did in the Premier League spotlight.
