Liverpool has firmly rejected Barcelona's approach for star forward Luis Diaz, asserting that the Colombia international is not for sale. Despite recent speculation fueled by social media posts and interest from other clubs, Liverpool considers Diaz a key player, especially after his significant contributions to their Premier League title win last season.

Liverpool Stands Firm On Diaz

Liverpool has made it unequivocally clear that Luis Diaz, a pivotal figure in their recent Premier League triumph, is not available for transfer. Club sources confirmed that an inquiry from Barcelona to discuss the forward was swiftly rebuffed. Diaz, who joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022, is under contract until 2027.

Diaz's Impact And Future

During Liverpool's title-winning campaign, the 28-year-old Diaz was instrumental, netting 13 goals and providing seven assists in the league. His impressive performances have not only drawn the attention of Barcelona but also Manchester City and clubs in Saudi Arabia. Despite the transfer rumors, Diaz has expressed contentment at Anfield.

  • "I'm very happy at Liverpool - I've always said so," Diaz stated while on international duty. "They've welcomed me very well."
  • He added, "The transfer market is opening, and we're trying to arrange what's best for us. I'm waiting to see what happens."
  • Diaz indicated his willingness to either sign a contract extension or see out his current two-year deal, emphasizing that the decision largely rests with the club.

Recent Transfer Activity At Anfield

Liverpool's sporting director Richard Hughes and Fenway Sports Group's chief executive of football Michael Edwards have been active in the transfer market, aiming to bolster Arne Slot's squad. Recent moves include:

  • The £29.5 million signing of Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.
  • Liverpool is reportedly close to a club-record £109 million deal for Germany midfielder Florian Wirtz, also from Leverkusen.
  • Talks are ongoing to sign Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez for an estimated £45 million to £50 million.
  • Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will join the squad after a loan spell at Valencia.

In terms of player retention, Mohamed Salah signed a new two-year contract in April, and captain Virgil van Dijk also extended his deal. However, Trent Alexander-Arnold has moved to Real Madrid, and goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher was sold to Brentford for an initial £12.5 million. Striker Darwin Nunez has also been linked with moves to Saudi Arabian clubs and Barcelona.
